Wythenshawe Weightlifting Club fighting holiday hunger in Manchester

Wythenshawe Weightlifting Club, sponsored by Express Medicals, is the recipient of a substantial grant to provide hot meals to young people attending the club during the winter school holidays.

Recipients of free school meals often face what is known as "holiday hunger" during breaks from school. This problem has gained prominence in the national discourse, due in no small part to Marcus Rashford MBE.

The grant from Manchester City Council and MCRActive means that the club, located in Rashford's home town of Wythenshawe, Manchester, is now able to fund meals for 40 young people over this Christmas break.

The club has even more reason to be proud. Various members of the club competed in the Junior British Weightlifting Competition, taking home a number of medals for the club. Phoebe Davis (below), club regular and daughter of EML adviser Dr Simon Davis, came 4th in her age bracket.
