Wythenshawe Weightlifting Club in Commonwealth Baton Relay

Wythenshawe Weightlifting Club, of which Express Medicals is a sponsor, was in the spot light last week, when the Queen’s Baton was carried and passed on by senior coach Anthony Arthur.

The Queen’s Baton Relay is an important part of the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham this summer. The Relay began in October 2021, and has visited all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth over 294 days. It represents hope, unity, solidarity and collaboration, connecting communities and cultures on the journey.

One such community is Wythenshawe, where the Weightlifting Club is not only producing the next generation of Commonwealth Games, World Championship and Olympic hopefuls, but providing sporting opportunities to young people in one of the country’s most deprived areas.

Anthony Arthur is a senior coach at the club, has represented Great Britain and England at Commonwalth Games, World Championships and the Olympics.
