A Network Rail Competence-Specific medical, also known as a Personal Track Safety medical (or PTS medical) is a requirement for those working on Network Rail’s infrastructure.
Those starting to work on railway tracks are required to be PTS certified, and the Personal Track Safety medical assessment is a prerequisite of this.
What is included in a PTS medical?
A questionnaire covering medical history, mental health, lifestyle, and wellbeing
Height & weight measurement, including BMI calculation
Blood pressure and pulse checks
Vision assessment: distance, peripheral and colour
Urinalysis
Audiometry evaluation
General mobility assessment
Alertness tests
How is a Network Rail medical carried out?
A PTS or Network Rail Competence-Specific medical is delivered face-to-face, with one of our highly trained Occupational Health Technicians, Nurses, or Doctors. Due to Network Rail’s requirements for a physical assessment of the candidate, we cannot undertake Personal Track Safety medicals remotely, over the phone or via video call.
We can deliver PTS medicals onsite, anywhere in the UK, or if you prefer to visit one of our clinics, we often have availability the same or next working day.
